Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a prime location, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and despite the fact visas are apparently required to cross, there are means around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel complex that features many amenities in addition to the gambling den, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
