Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect destination, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and although visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling hall, highlights 150 slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that highlights many luxuries accompanying the casino, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight table games.
